Coyotes

Coyotes, mountain lions, and bobcats are native to the area and may be attracted to homes by pet food left outside, the presence of small pets, and similar factors. The State Fish and Game advises against leaving food or pets outdoors and recommends keeping a close watch on small children, especially during early morning or late afternoon hours.

If you encounter a coyote approaching you, here’s what to do:

When hazing a coyote, it’s important to continue these actions until the coyote leaves the area. If the coyote persists, take a few steps forward, stop, and yell again. For more information, visit the following website:

Bees

Bee season runs from spring to fall, and you might notice a hive forming in your yard. Choose your bee removal company wisely, as many advertise that they relocate hives to special locations but may actually discard them in the nearest dumpster.

One common spot for bees to establish a hive is in irrigation valve control boxes. If you remove a hive from a valve box, make sure to cover the opening with netting or fill the box with foam or insulation to prevent them from returning. We appreciate bees, but not in unsafe locations!

Fire Code and Street Numbering Information

According to Section 505 of the California 2016 Fire Code, street address numbers on the front of our homes are very important for emergency services all year long. Here is what the code requires:

"Address identification shall be legible and placed in a position that is visible from the street or road fronting the property. Address identification characters shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numbers or alphabetic letters. Numbers shall not be spelled out. Each character shall not be less than 4 inches (102 mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 1/2 inch (12.7mm)."

While painting numbers on your curb can be very helpful, they do not meet California Fire Code. Number visibility is imperative for all emergency services, so please evaluate your home numbers and make changes necessary for your safety!
